SPP launches greenhouse gas tracking and reporting program with Singularity Energy

SPP can now show its member utilities the greenhouse gas emissions behind their power supply — by source and by hour, drawn from SPP data.

For member utilities facing state-mandated carbon goals and growing pressure from large customers, that data is increasingly essential. SPP has launched a greenhouse gas tracking and reporting program in partnership with Singularity Energy. Based in Boston, Singularity specializes in greenhouse gas emissions tracking and reporting for grid operators and utilities.

The system draws on SPP’s operational data — generation, metering, and market records — to produce hourly, source-by-source emissions reports for each member utility. The reports reflect the energy SPP dispatched, allocated to each member’s load based on ownership and contractual arrangements.

“This service helps our members track emissions, assisting them in adhering to regulations established by public utilities commissions and other state or federal regulatory bodies” said Wendy Weaver, SPP senior manager for market support and analysis. “Some of these entities have state-enforced goals, and this initiative helps them meet those requirements.”

Public GHG reports for SPP’s overall footprint are available at https://portal.spp.org/pages/ghg-public-reports and have been live since May. Member utilities can access detailed individual reports and a stakeholder dashboard through the SPP portal.
