SPP welcomed 22 college students from across the country for the 2025 summer internship program. This highly sought after program begins in mid-May and ends in early August.

Juniors and seniors studying engineering, IT, markets and more arrived at SPP’s corporate campus eager to work and learn alongside industry leaders for the eight-week program. Interns are fully immersed in day-to-day SPP life, obtaining a new-hire guide, receiving onboarding training, attending team and one-on-one meetings and one-on-one touch bases and completing an assigned project relevant to their field of study.

"Our summer interns aren't just given busy work--they take on meaningful projects that provide real-world experience in their field of interest within the electric industry. Their contributions make a lasting impact, supporting SPP employees in our mission to keep the lights on," says Kurtis Denton, Supervisor of Talent Acquisition.
Not only do students complete meaningful work, they're also presented with networking and professional development opportunities.
"Getting to eat lunch with the other interns was the highlight of this program." says Holden Clark, an engineering intern from Louisiana Tech University. "We would share what we were working on, things that we had learned that day or that week and even talk about our different college experiences and what our life was like at home. I really enjoyed getting to meet a lot of different people from a lot of different places."
As a culmination of their internship program, interns presented their work to leadership and staff of SPP on August 7. The auditorium was full and buzzing with excitement as interns took up the two front rows, preparing to present to their team members, friends and SPP leadership.
Presentations included projects on contingency analysis planning; market analysis and planning; work with the Market Economic Model, which simulates and supports market operations and impacts; increasing data efficiency in settlements; RTO expansion and load calculation, and more.
Once all presentations had completed, interns gathered for a final send-off lunch with each other and their SPP staff teams.
When asked his overall thoughts on the internship and if he would encourage others to participate, settlements intern Max Grinfedder from McGill University gave an enthusiastic review.
"This has been my favorite internship so far," he said. "I really enjoyed the structure of the program. There was a clear plan, and we set our goals at the beginning and even had a performance review at the end."
Grinfedder said the review was especially useful to help him prepare for evaluations when he enters the full-time job world.
We are so proud of these 22 students and will definitely miss them as they head back to college or into their careers. We hope this has been an impactful learning experience and look forward to seeing some of their familiar faces around campus as full-time employees!
